HISTORY
Truedata Computer Services was established in May 1983 by three Derbyshire businessmen all of whom had considerable involvement with various charities and churches. They had noted that within these charities, a considerable effort (and often cost) was being incurred in keeping records for and communicating with members and supporters. The nature of the computer industry at that time was such that only the largest of charitable organizations had been able to consider bringing any level of automation to this task and the personal computer revolution was only just about to begin.
They therefore resolved to create an organisation that would purchase and operate a small amount of computer equipment to provide services to the charities they supported and worked with. In order to meet the needs of the charities both for quite specific services and for a cost model which was appropriate for this sector, that custom software would have to be written. By the autumn of that year the first services were made available focusing on membership data entry and management, production of address labels and basic subscription tracking. Over the next year additional services such as the creation of membership directories, mailing of membership renewal forms, reminders etc were added. The software was also expanded to allow additional data requirements of specific organisations/charities to be supported without the costs normally associated with "bespoke" software.
Since the mid 1980's, the technology used by the company has evolved many times and the services offered have greatly expanded. Truedata's co-location with Moorley's Print and Publishing in offices at Ilkeston has allowed customers to have a single point of contact for end-to-end requirements such as magazine production and distribution, while also allowing Truedata to maintain a very low cost-base and hence provide services that fit within the budget of the charitable sector.
Despite the many changes that have taken place within the charity sector, the IT industry and within Truedata itself - its fundamental aims and objectives remain unaltered. We still believe that the charity sector has many unique requirements and that only an organisation focused on those needs can deliver the services they need at costs that make sense.
